The Forge Calculator

The optimizer tries to answer a simple question: given your ores and your current build, what are the strongest weapons and armor pieces you can realistically craft?

1. Reading your inventory

• We take your manual inputs and/or OCR scan to know how many of each ore you own.(Images are not stored)
• Only ores with a count > 0 are considered when building compositions.

2. Building ore compositions

• We test many mixes of up to 4 ore types (e.g. 30% Darkryte / 30% Magmaite / 40% Eye Ore).
• Each mix has a base multiplier equal to the weighted average of the ores’ multipliers.
• Trait ores (Obsidian, Darkryte, Eye Ore, Fireite, Magmaite, etc.) are capped at around 30% of the mix, since their trait is already at full power there.

3. Success chance / forge odds

• For every total ore count (3–50) we use a table of weapon/armor odds that matches the game’s forge probabilities.
• When suggesting crafts we ignore silly outcomes with terrible odds and focus on setups at or above your target minimum success rate (usually 50%+).

4. Damage & DPS calculation

• Each weapon class has official base damage and attack speed per variant (all Colossal Sword variants with their base DMG and attack times, etc.).
• We multiply those base stats by your ore multiplier to get a damage range from the weakest to the strongest variant.
• DPS is computed as Damage / Attack time per variant, then scaled by the multiplier, without mixing stats between different variants.

5. Traits and “Effective DPS”

• Trait ores add extra “virtual” DPS on top of the raw multiplier (burn, explosion, Eye Ore damage, etc.).
• We compute a trait score from how much of each trait ore is in the mix and convert that into an extra percentage bonus.
• Effective DPS = base DPS range × traitScore%.

6. Armor, vitality and dodge

• Armor pieces use official HP% values per variant, scaled by your ore multiplier.
• Vitality traits are treated as extra max HP; dodge (Darkryte) is treated similar to damage reduction for “effective HP”.

7. Comparing to your current build

• Your “Current build (optional)” inputs are converted into effective DPS / effective DEF using the same formulas.
• Each suggested craft is then tagged as worse / similar / better compared to your current stats.

All of this is an approximation of the real in-game behavior, tuned with community testing. It won’t be 100% perfect, but it should be very close and most importantly consistent between items, so you can trust the comparisons even if exact numbers differ slightly from in-game.
